About Lisa Ziff

A Sculptor’s Point of View

I am a native of Southern California, and received my Master of Industrial Design at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). I spent my formative design years working as an assistant for Frank Gehry, then on to Milan where I worked for Studio Alchimia.

At Alchimia, as well as Frank Gehry’s studio, I learned that the lines of art and design may be crossed and blurred.

After four years in Italy, I returned to Los Angeles to open a design studio. I created my own line of cast aluminum and glass housewares, which was sold to museum stores, boutiques, and department stores across the world.

After five successful years in the housewares market, I decided to focus my work on a more precious and personal scale, creating a line of bespoke gold jewelry.

I approach each piece from a sculptor’s point of view, with an eye toward natural, organic forms. My father was a former biology teacher and entomologist. His fascination and affection for flora and fauna continue to inspire my work.

Each original piece is created and carved in my studio in Los Angeles, where I live with my husband, and occasionally my twenty-some old children. The result is a handmade line that is uniquely sensuous, easy to wear, which evokes simple, everyday beauty.
